Salwar Suit and Anarkali Suits are both traditionally famous in the royal families in India and were preferred by most royal daughters. Both are embodiments of a luxury that's also comfortable and regal.
Salwar Suits were traditionally introduced by the Mughals and had a Persian influence on the same. Salwar Suits were created for Mughal kings who wished for royalty, luxury and comfort in a single outfit. Once Salwar kameezes were created, they were worn by women as well. This makes Salwar adaptable for both men and women except that Salwar Kameez for men has a shorter tunic paired with narrow pants.
For women, Salwar Suits are three-part attire going by the traditional books. In this case, the Salwar or the bottoms are baggy loose pants and the Kameez is a tunic or knee-length kurti that complements the look. The final part of the outfit is the dupatta or shawl. This shrug or shawl is often tied around the neck, above the head and is in very contrasting colors to complement the outfit. Additionally, over time there have been changes in the Salwar Suits designs and one of the forms is the Anarkali.
Anarkali Suits are similar to Salwar Suits except that the bodice is right below the bust and not by the waist. This invention was also popularized in Punjab, much like the Salwar Suits itself. Salwar Suit Latest Designs include the Anarkali Suits. These were courted by Mughal women as they preferred something to distinguish themselves from others wearing Salwar Suits. It is important to note that Anarkali Suits are a type of, variation of Salwar Suits. This makes it more important to understand the difference between Anarkali Suits and Salwar Suits:
- With the flared outlook of the Anarkali Suit, it appears a lot more like a gown than a Salwar Suit. With changes like the floor-length Anarkali, their primary focus is on the kurta that is not like the traditional knee-length and has gradually moved away from it. On the other hand, with a Salwar Kameez, it becomes significant to emphasize the silhouette of the Salwar and for this very reason, the Kameez or tunic is shorter in comparison. There have been experiments with the Salwar Suit but it cannot be deprived of its true essence as a three-piece traditional attire. With changes like cigarette pants and petal pants, the Kameez also takes new forms accordingly.
- The bodice of the Anarkali Suit is right below the bust, and that of the Salwar Suit is by the waist. This difference allows for different styles of experimentation. With innovations like the side cuts and jacket Kameez, Salwar suit has gained new audiences amongst the youth. At the same plane, Anarkali Suit has changed like the cut open front, or the peek-a-boo Kurti Anarkalis are also growing gradually. Indian markets are flooded with the two.
- Anarkali takes a royal forefront and is the showstopper of an Anarkali Suit; however, with a Salwar Suit, the bottoms and the silhouette of the same determine the overall look. The Salwar also determines the length, style and variations of the Kurtis paired with the same. Salwars can be paired with shorter tunics and even tops but Anarkali Suits are defined by their length and sleek nature.
